Why stay here
Long before Huntsville became synonymous with rockets, people were climbing Monte Sano looking for fresh air. You can still sleep up here. Monte Sano State Park has 14 cabins tucked into the mountain landscape, including historic stone cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Eleven have fireplaces, and hiking and biking trails begin practically outside the door. It's wonderfully counterintuitive Huntsville: spend the day at the Space & Rocket Center or downtown, then drive up the mountain and sleep in a stone cabin surrounded by woods.
