THE STORY
Why this place matters
Straight to Ale helped turn a former Huntsville middle school into one of the city's most unusual places to eat and drink. The local brewery moved into its sprawling Campus 805 home in 2016, taking over part of the former Stone Middle School and eventually building much more than a taproom around it. Today the complex includes the brewery, Shelta Cavern Spirits, Campus Grounds Coffee, event and performance spaces and Ale's Kitchen, its in-house scratch kitchen. And Ale's Kitchen isn't just there to keep people fed between beers. The menu runs through burgers, wings, smoked meats, loaded fries, tacos and wraps, fish and chips, crispy Asian ribs, cheese curds, sandwiches and plenty of things engineered for sharing across a brewery table. Look for the brisket grilled cheese, Cuban, rotating taco combinations and pretzel bites.
