A longtime Market Street deli serving steamed sandwiches, burgers, chicken salad and strawberry pretzel salad.
Field Notes: Wildwood Deli is the kind of downtown lunch place where the menu understands that a sandwich should require both hands. Go classic with a Reuben, club or chicken salad on a toasted croissant, or commit to the Dagwood: ham, turkey, pastrami and corned beef piled with cheese, peppers, onions, jalapeños and spicy brown mustard. The burgers have their own loyal following, but do not overlook the Southern deli-case comforts—broccoli salad, pimento cheese and a square of strawberry pretzel salad for dessert. Mother-and-son team Rhonda and Matthew Fisher took over Wildwood more than a decade ago, continuing a deli that had already fed Athens through several chapters of ownership.
